Minnesota Muzzleloader Hunting Season

Updated as of 10/3/2025- "Muzzleloaders must be loaded with a single projectile that has a soft point or is an expanding bullet type. Muzzleloaders cannot be loaded at the breech, powder revolvers are not legal for taking big game if they are loaded through the cylinder. Smooth-bore muzzleloaders used must be at least .45 caliber, rifled muzzleloaders must be .40 caliber or larger. Muzzleloaders with scopes are legal during the regular firearms and muzzleloader deer seasons."

  • Shotguns or muzzleloader shotguns must be 10 guage or smaller
  • Only fine shot size No. 4 and small diameter (sizes 4, 5, 6, 7.5, 8, etc.) may be used

MINNESOTA MUZZLELOADER HUNTING SEASON REGULATIONS      

  • Muzzleloaders must fire a single projectile that is a soft point or expanding bullet type
  • Muzzleloaders cannot load from the breech

  • Scopes are legal
  • Ammo must be U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service approved nontoxic ammunition
