Description

Hornady Great Plains lead bullets were specially designed for hunting. Their three-diameter bearing surface makes them easy to load while ensuring a tight fit in the bore. They feature a small base diameter which makes them easy to start down the bore. Upon firing the skirt of the hollow base expands to engage the rifling and seal the bore.

Features: 

  • Pre-lubed with all natural lube.
  • Designed specifically for hunting.
  • Bullets have three bearing surfaces, each a different diameter. Base is smallest for ease of loading. Middle is larger and engages the rifling. Top is the largest diameter to fit the grooves of the rifling.
  • Base has a thin skirt that expands upon firing to seal the bore.

Montana elk hunt

At the range I was getting 4 inch groups with open sites @100 yards.
On my hunt I took a bull elk at about 70 yards, this bullet dropped him in place with an impact right in the crease of the shoulder and mid body elevation. I highly recommend these bullets if you are hunting an area that requires an all lead projectile.

Highly accurate out of 1:48 twist. Very easy loading. Does respond to load variations so do your bench testing to dial in your load.

Great performance

I have been using this bullet for over 40 years and have had excellent results on white tail deer. I shoot a Thompson Center .50 caliber Hawken and it is consistently on target at the range.
