Description

The Thor™ Bullet produced by OPG Gun Ventures is a patented, full bore diameter, bullet conical that is bore size specific. The .50 caliber, hollow point, Thor™ Bullet is Colorado legal, which has some of harshest regulations for muzzleloader projectiles. With 100% copper construction, the bullet is also certified legal non-lead in California. The Thor™ Bullets are built on a limited basis, and are manufactured by Barnes™ using their X Bullet® Technology of all copper construction with expansion technology of an integrated expansion ring specifically designed for loading and accuracy. The Thor™ Bullet is proven to be extremely accurate at longer ranges, while providing lethal expansion on deer and elk-sized game.

The Thor™ Bullets are a premium Barnes bullet with proven technology. The bullet’s hollow base expands when the powder goes off, both gripping the rifling and sealing the bore.  These bullets actually shoot 75-100 grain FPS faster than a Powerbelt due to their superb sealing power. If it is a quality conical you are looking for that won’t fragment into a million pieces, the conical, 297 grain Thor™ Bullet is the way to go.

**** Before purchasing your first pack of Thor™ Bullets, you first need to order a test sizing pack of 4 bullets of diameters of .500”, .501”. .502” and .503” that allows you to correctly size your bore. It is important that you start with the smallest diameter Thor™ Bullet, and work your way up in diameter size until you find the proper fitting Thor™ Bullet for your muzzleloader. While manufacturers have similar bore diameters, they will vary .001”-.002" from gun to gun, so it is extremely important to correctly size your bore to determine which diameter works best for you.

To determine which bullet is best for your muzzleloader, start with an empty rifle, remove the breechplug and slide in the .500 bullet. If it slips easily down the bore, you then try the .501 and so on.  When you find the diameter that requires about 20/30 ft./lbs. of force to push down the barrel (that is comparable to the resistance you get loading a standard sabot bullet), then that’s the correct size for your rifle

Excellent accuracy

I am relatively new to muzzle loading. Before last season I bought a CVA Optima NW in the stainless steel. I shot several powders landed on pyrodex. Bullets were all over the place round balls shot surprisingly accurate under 100yrd. But I wanted to find a conical for Elk hunting. Tried many, even bought several plastic skirted bullets that are illegal to hunt with in my state, just trying to get some accuracy. My buddy bought the Thor sizing kit and my gun took the .500 his took the 501 so he told me to shoot that one bullet. I loved the way it expanded and I also hit very close to the bulls eye. So I bought a small box to try. Fist thing I noticed was they were easy to sight in because they actually flew the same every time. After the fist 6 shots I had a 3” group at 100 yds with open sights. I was thrilled! The next week I run up in the mountains for a couple hrs and shot at some elevations. I found Thor 297 with 110gr Pyrodex was the ticket. From 40 I was 2” high to 100yrs I was hovering at the bottom of the bullseye, so I stepped back to 150yrds and wow! I was actually about 7” low but man they were still really tight group, about 6”… all open sights. With any of the lead i tried I didn’t get even a consistent group at anything over 50yds. They are highly accurate and this year I just drew my Tag. We will see how they do on tissue, my sister inlaw drew the tag last year and the Thor dropped the buck in its tracks. Hop this helps.

Found the bullet in the opposite hide.

Shot a four point buck at 85 yards with the 297 grain hollow point. 100 grains 777. Through one shoulder and found the bullet in the opposite hide. 100% weight retention and great mushrooming. No blood trail but he didn’t go far. Might try 110 grains powder next time to get that little bit extra. Great bullet at the range and the field. Mine shoots the .501 but some are tight and if I force them down they shoot way off. Push it out and try another.

Thor bullets

These bullets seem to shoot good and flatter than solid lead bullets, but after a few shots they are hard to start down the barrel. I used some bore butter to get them pushed down easier.
