Investarm™ Bridger Hawken Rifle - .50 Cal Flintlock - IA2410

The earliest known record of a Hawken rifle dates back to 1823 when one was custom made for William Henry Ashley, a gun powder manufacturer turned fur trader, who used it in his expeditions up the Missouri river to the interior of the Western United States. These parties included Jim Bridger and many other explorers who would later become famous mountain men. For the next 20 years, Bridger repeatedly traversed the continental interior between the US and border and the southern boundary of present-day Colorado, and from the Missouri River westward, always with his hawken rifle by his side.

Description

Jim Bridger carried the Hawken rifle as he traversed the Great Plains and Rocky Mountains of the western interior. In fact, a number of famous trappers and explorers owned Hawken rifles, including Auguste Lacome, Hugh Glass, Kit Carson, Joseph Meek, Jedediah Smith and Theodore Roosevelt. The rifle was the pinnacle of the modern percussion firearms development of the mid-nineteenth century. Originally designed and built by such famous makers as Hawken, Gemmer & Demick, the Hawken Rifle represents durable design in a big bore caliber with plenty of knockdown power. No other factory assembled rifle offers the authentic style and design of Investarm's Bridger Hawken Rifle.

The Hawken rifle was originally produced by brothers Jacob and Samuel Hawken, in their St. Louis, Missouri shop founded in 1815. The earliest known record of a Hawken rifle dates back to 1823 when one was custom made for William Henry Ashley, a gun powder manufacturer turned fur trader, who used it in his expeditions up the Missouri River to the interior of the Western United States. This Flintlock Bridger Hawken Rifle offers high-quality features such as a 28" barrel with 1 in 48" twist rate for patched ball hunting loads, double set triggers and Hawken style percussion "snail" with clean out screw. Overall - Great Gun

This was my very first muzzleloader that I’ve purchased. My dad has a 50 cal. Thompson Center Renegade that was nice to compare this to. This gun is a beautiful gun that is very solid and dependable. It has the 1/48 twist which allows you to shoot both round balls and sabots. I am shooting sabots out of this gun. Now for a few minor issues I’ve noticed. I could not get a spark from the flint that came in the gun after a few attempts so I switched it out quickly with an English flint that I had with me. I’m not sure if it was the flint or the frizzen that just needed to be worked in. I think the sights that come on it are average and I will be upgrading to a fiber optic sight for next hunting season. The sights that came on the gun are hard to see in my opinion. I thought the gun was very easy to assemble. However, you may want to have a rubber mallet on hand to help put the push pin in all the way. Overall, it is a beautiful gun that shoots very reliably and feels super solid. I would recommend this firearm even with the minor issues that I discussed above. Can’t wait to do some more shooting with it in the warmer months this summer!

Solid, dependable and accurate

I've hunted with a flint for 30 years now. I decided to buy a 2nd one to teach my 13 year old how to shoot one so he can hunt on the refuge with me. Super fast shipping and was delivered in 2 days. Rifle is solid, well built and the finish is good. After some elevation adjustments It was holding a 2 inch group at 100 yards with a 245gr power belt accutip and 110gr of 2f. I do wish the stock was a prettier piece of walnut for the price and the flint was in upside-down but all in all a great shooting rifle

Just OK

As much as I would have liked to have a handmade flintlock I simply couldn’t afford one. The Investarm Bridger Hawken seemed like a good value option. The rifle looks good but it’s just OK. I ran into a couple of problems. The barrel doesn’t fit into the stock easily. I need to really squeeze the stock and barrel together to fit the wedge pin (I’m sure it was never test fit before it was boxed). The quality of the lock is lacking and the trigger group doesn’t function well. The set trigger is very stiff and doesn’t seem to work properly every shot. I don’t think I would trust it on a deer hunt without upgrading the lock and trigger group. Also I know that flint is a natural material and can be inconsistent but the one that came in the rifle lost a chunk on the first shot and was useless after 6 shots. I guess I would recommend it but be aware that it’s a value option.
