Williams WPS Muzzleloader Sight Set 676584 | Features & Setup
When it comes to western muzzleloader hunting, your sight setup can play a big role in how well your rifle performs in the field. One setup that’s gotten a lot of attention in recent years is the Williams Western Precision Sight Set, or WPS as we like to call it. Today we are going to be talking about the most popular variant SKU: 676584. We will include a table at the end of the article that shows which muzzleloaders its designed to fit.
In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the WPS and why it has become such a popular open sight option for muzzleloader hunters. We’ll also go over what comes in the package when you get one, walk through some basic installation tips, and highlight a few of the features that make this sight set stand out.
What Does the Sight Set Include?
Included in the sight set is the rear peep sight and base, front globe sight, sight card insert which includes six different reticle options to choose from, along with all of the screws needed to properly mount both the front and rear sights. You may notice there are multiple different screw types in the front sight screw packaging this is something that Williams includes since different manufactures have different sized receiver holes.
Installation
Once you've gone through the WPS packaging and made sure all of the parts are there you can move on to the installation process.
To Install the rear base you will first need to remove the peep sight itself from the base. You can do this by loosening the small flathead screw on the right side of base (when looking at it from the rear). Once the screw has been loosened the peep sight will slide down off of the base and give you access to the mounting hole.
It's also important to note that the peep sight base should be mounted in the furthest rear receiver hole (the one closest to the buttstock of the rifle) If it's mounted in any of the other receiver holes the peep sight opening will be too small to see through and won't line up properly with the front sight.
After you have the base mounted you can slide the peep sight back to its original position in the middle of the base. Once it’s in place, tighten the set screw on the side so the peep sight stays secure and doesn’t slide out.
Once the the rear sight is installed you can move to the front sight. The front sight uses a single flathead mounting screw. Place the base on top of the barrel and line it up with the pre drilled and tapped hole. Once it's lined up thread the screw in the mounting hole and tighten down securely.
Out of the package the front sight will not have a crosshair insert installed. From the sight card insert you can choose the one you prefer, pop it out and unscrew the knurled ring on the front of the globe sight. This will open the globe so you can insert the crosshairs. Once it's in place you can thread the knurled ring back on and tighten it down snug.
You don't want to over tighten the ring as that can cause the crosshair insert to rotate slightly and end up slanted. A snug/firm fit is all you need.
Once both the front and rear sights are installed, you're ready to start sighting in your muzzleloader but before we get to that lets go over some of the features that make the WPS so unique.
Features
One thing we really like about the WPS is its versatility. In low light conditions the standard crosshair reticles can be hard to see. So Williams also offers red and green fiber optic inserts that can be swapped in if you want a brighter aiming point.

You can even stack the inserts if you want. To do this place the fiber optic insert in first then set the crosshair insert on top of it and then tighten the knurled ring back down. This can make the sight picture easier to pick up, especially in darker conditions.

Another feature worth mentioning is the updated globe design. Older versions of the WPS only had a single hole in the top of the globe for installing the sight. The newer models now include larger windows cut into the side of the globe. The windows allow more natural light to enter the globe and make the crosshairs more defined and help the fiber optic 'glow' brighter.

Another feature we want to highlight is the adjustable rear peep sight. The peep is mounted on a base that allows you to adjust for windage and elevation.
Windage adjustments can be made by loosening the screw on the top of the base, while elevation is adjusted using the set screw on the side. This makes it easy to adjust the sights based on your muzzleloader, the load you’re shooting, and the distance you plan to zero for.

The WPS is a well-designed sight that offers versatility for muzzleloader hunters. The interchangeable inserts, updated globe design, and adjustable rear peep make it easy to set up for your rifle and load, helping create a sight picture that’s clear and easy to focus on while out in the field.
