Weatherby Model 307 MZY: Weatherby Enters the Muzzleloader Market - Muzzle-Loaders™

Few names in the outdoor industry scream quality and reliability like Weatherby. For eight decades, Weatherby has been a strong leader in the centerfire world, but has not extended beyond smokeless into the world of black powder until now. In June of this year, Weatherby introduced the Model 307 MZY, a muzzleloader that boasts extreme long-range precision, without the price tag of a custom muzzleloader build. 


The Weatherby 307 MZY utilizes the tried and tested Model 307 platform with special modifications that allow it to use the Arrowhead Rifles Gen2 ignition. By featuring the Arrowhead Rifles Gen2 ignition system, a shooter is able to utilize large rifle primers, which are more efficient than the 209 primers used in most modern inline muzzleloaders. The Gen2 ignition is also sealed to provide the highest possible degree of weather resistance. The importance of this particular feature cannot be overstated. As those of us who muzzleloader hunt know, the weather will always be a factor when hunting with black powder, but the design of the 307 MZY with the Arrowhead Rifles Gen2 ignition ensures that you have the best possible chance of success in less-than-ideal conditions. 

Another benefit to the sealed ignition system featured in the Weatherby Model 307 MZY is that there is little or no blowback into the action. Not only does this make cleaning much easier, but it also improves consistency by ensuring every shot has the same amount of pressure. 

Weatherby is proudly based in Sheridan, Wyoming, and being a western company, they kept western muzzleloader hunters in mind when designing the Model 307 MZY. This muzzleloader is offered in both .45 and .50 caliber, giving western hunters the opportunity to pursue elk in states like Colorado that require .50 caliber or greater. In addition to all of the aforementioned features, the 307 MZY features a lightweight Peak 44 Bastion carbon fiber stock and a threaded muzzle with Weatherby’s MZYbrake already installed. These combine to produce a muzzleloader that is very packable at only 7.1lbs while also maintaining very manageable recoil.
