Description
Muzzle-Loaders flints are handcrafted by a master flint knapper working in European tradition, a craft that has been practiced for more than 300 years. Each flint is carefully shaped and finished using top quality stone to deliver durable performance and the hottest spark possible on every strike.
The flints are made in a historical style that was common from the 1600s through the late 18th century and has been thoughtfully revived for today’s traditional shooters. That classic profile not only looks period correct but also offers practical advantages. The shape allows the knapper to renew and rework the edge multiple times, so a single flint can be kept serviceable for many seasons.
Most of our flints are prepared with multiple usable edges straight from the workshop, giving you several firing surfaces before a re-knap is needed. When an edge dulls, the flint can be easily reshaped or sharpened by a knapper or by a knowledgeable user, extending the life of the flint and keeping your ignition consistent in the field.
Simple to use yet built with traditional skill, Muzzle-Loaders flints provide reliable ignition, long service life, and the authentic look and feel that period shooters prize.
To load a flint simply wrap the flint in a piece of leather and place the flint and leather between the jaws of the hammer. Gently tighten down the top jaw of the hammer until the flint is firmly clamped in place. To get the best performance out of the flints ensure that the striking edge makes perpendicular contact with the frizzen upon firing. Additionally ensure the leather piece is not interfering with the striking edge of the flint, trim the leather piece if needed.
